Drotaverine Hydrochloride and Mefenamic Acid Tablets are used in the treatment of abdominal pain.  Drotaverine + Mefenamic Acid is a combination of two medicines: Drotaverine and Mefenamic Acid, which relieves abdominal pain and cramps. Drotaverine is an anti-spasmodic medicine that relieves contractions (spasms) associated with smooth muscles in the abdomen. Mefenamic Acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause abdominal pain and inflammation (swelling).

Mechanism of Action 

The working mechanism of the Drotaverine Hydrochloride and Mefenamic Acid Tablets  is based on the following 

• Drotaverine (Antispasmodic): It works by inhibiting the enzyme PDE4, which leads to an increase in cyclic AMP levels in smooth muscle cells. This process corrects calcium levels in the cells, causing the tight, spasming muscles of the stomach, gut, or uterus to relax.

• Mefenamic Acid (NSAID): It blocks the enzyme Cyclo-oxygenase (COX), which prevents the production of Prostaglandins. These are the chemical messengers responsible for the sensation of pain, fever, and inflammation.
